Rangeley lakes boat 15' or 17' row boat. this is a copy of a boat built in the rangeley lakes area of northern maine. the lines for this boat are from a boat built by h.n. ellis of rangeley, maine circa 1930.. The rangeley boat is a guideboat that was developed in the mid to late 1800's for fishing in the large lakes of western maine. it needed to be fast under oars (this was pre-outboard motor, of course), good in rough water and stable enough to stand up in and fly cast.. Rangeley lake guide boat this modified version of a classic rangeley guide boat is built with steam-bent oak ribs with atlantic white cedar planking and larch stems. this is a very stable boat, excellent rowing in all types of water..
